Remembering another proud GhanaChild

In loving memory of Prince Abdul Malik, † 2026

On Saturday, 7 November 2026, Prince Abdul Malik went out in Etobicoke, west of Toronto, Canada. He never came home. He was shot shortly before 4:30 p.m. near Rathburn Road and The East Mall and died later that day in hospital.

He was only a youth, believed to be in his late teens or early twenties.

Prince was Ghanaian, one of our sons living abroad for a better future. In a video that has moved many Ghanaians to tears, his grieving mother said:

"Auntie Serwaa, Prince has died and left me. I have no one. If I had known this would happen, I would have called you to come and take him away."

We did not know Prince personally. But we know his story, because it is the story of so many of our families: a child who crosses the ocean for a better life, and a mother at home who prays every day for his safety.

His loss belongs to all of us. And it comes just nine days after we lost 15-year-old Javits Frimpong in New York. Two sons in nine days. Our hearts are heavy.

To his mother and the whole family: our hearts are with you. Mo'ndue! May God give you strength.
